Chard is a plant that belongs to the Chenopodiaceae family. Its leaves are large, oval, slightly heart-shaped, with marked veins that grow from the middle of the stem. The petiole is wide, long and fleshy. The colour varies depending on the variety, between dark green, light green and yellow. The stalks are white, cream or yellow, although there are also red ones. The flavour is similar to spinach and the petiole is very fleshy and succulent with a very mild vegetal flavour.
